The region of South Savo is home to some 153 000 Finns. Located in the south-east Finland, the region is just a couple of hours drive from the Finnish capital Helsinki. ► Be surprised.
Best known South Savo is perhaps for the great Lake Saimaa with its countless islands and rare specie of seal. However, it is also known for the Savonlinna Opera Festival, the Gergiev Festival Mikkeli and Savcor Ballet, the military command headquarters in Mikkeli and the Orthodox monastery in Heinävesi.
