The region of Etelä-Savo is home to some 160 000 Finns. Located in the south-east Finland, the region is just a couple of hours drive from the Finnish capital Helsinki.
Best known Etelä-Savo is perhaps for the great Lake Saimaa with its countless islands and rare specie of seal. However, it is also known for the Savonlinna Opera Festival, the Mikkeli Music Festival and Ballet, the military command headquarters in Mikkeli and the Orthodox monastery in Heinävesi.
