South Savo is a strong centre in the forest sector
South Savo is at the forefront of fibre and process technology, forest and wood expertise as well as business. We are ahead in areas such as forest energy and wood construction solutions as well as technologies for the vegetative propagation of forest tree seedlings. The forest sector value chain is at the core of the region's bioeconomy. The forest sector is closely linked also to metal and engineering industries and strong education expertise in the sector.
South Savo's water cluster is at the top of water sector
Blue Economy Mikkeli (BEM), EcoSairila, is a centre of excellence in blue bioeconomy, specialising in the circular economy of water management, water purification, digitalisaton, RDI, and training services.
South Savo Food Cluster is a network of responsible food production
South Savo Food Cluster is a network of primary producers, food processors, research and education organisations, food retailers and food service providers. The cluster aims to increase expertise, networking and internationalisation in the sector and to create an ecosystem for creating new innovations and lifelong learning.

Memory Campus is a collaborative hub uniting companies, memory institutions, researchers, and educators to strengthen expertise, innovation, and international cooperation. Rooted in Mikkeli’s strong heritage in archiving and digitisation, the cluster works to improve data reliability and support a sustainable digital and green transition. It provides services, development environments, and networks that advance digital information management and enable new business opportunities.
